| RIDERS NEEDED- WIND DANCERS WELCOMES NEW RIDERS TO BRING THEIR HORSES AND TRY OUT!
We are a team growing in talent and experience- this was only our 3rd year at the State meet and we took 5th overall. We're proud of our hard work and especially our friendships.
Member commitment includes practices (weekly most of the year, twice a week May-July) and competitions as well as attending monthly meetings (which are FUN and informative). Never ridden drill? Feeling intimidated? Don't be! Our experienced members and coach will help you learn. (More info on our new coach coming soon!)
ABOUT US
Wind Dancers was formed in 2004 by 4 'veteran' riders who wanted to share their passion and knowledge of drill with women that have like interests. We have grown with members from all over South King County, and look forward to adding more. Are you the next Wind Dancer?
We practice year round at Donida Farms every Thursday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. We have monthly business meetings as well, and occasional fundraising activities that all riders are asked to participate in.
We have a Board of Directors (made up of 4 team members) who help guide the team, and every team member serves on committees to help lighten the load of managing a successful team. Soon, we'll have a new coach to brag about as well.
Our team colors are turquoise, black and silver and our logo horse was drawn by Gail Vaden and our logo was designed by Susan Bunch.
Currently our team has over a dozen members. You may know one of us... when we aren't at drill we are friends, moms, grandmoms, neighbors and local horsewomen from many different riding discplines.

WELCOME TO DRILL
Mounted drill is teams of riders performing choreographed maneuvers to music. Drill routines are generally 4-12 minutes in length and there are several categories of routines performed for competition:
Compulsory– a formal program focused on equitation and execution. Music and all maneuvers / choreography are provided to team in advance of competition.
Freestyle– Musical freestyle routines are done at a canter or lope and performed to a musical selection where an entire arena becomes our "dance floor". These routines are usually 8 to 12 minutes in length. This performance is a series of patterns or maneuvers choreographed into a full routine.
Short Program- A program comprised of several required moves mixed creatively with maneuvers of the team’s choice. Approximately 5 to 6 minutes long.
Parade– maneuvers performed on a real or simulated street environment at a walk.
Quad (team of 4)- performed in costume, generally with a theme that matches selected music.
Wind Dancers has the opportunity to perform at several local events each year, for exhibition to educate people about drill and recruit new riders.
